Centrally-located for your U.P. Adventures

Next to Farmer Lake in the summer is a great place to sit on a swing and read a book. The kids can play outside all day long, and you don’t have to go anywhere!

But for those who prefer to get up and go, we are just 10 minutes from Gwinn, 30 minutes from Marquette and an hour from Munising. Many of our guests choose to take day trips to explore hikes, overlooks, waterfalls, beaches, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, restaurants, and cultural events.

Others explore by snowmobile or ORV, riding from the resort to Trail 8, less than a mile away.

We are near enough to Marquette to host parents visiting students at NMU, and close to Sawyer International Airport (MQT).

It was small enough that I felt comfortable with my kids playing outside without direct supervision, but big enough that there was plenty to keep us all busy. We used all of the water toys, the aqua park and all of the yard games too! ... It was close enough for us to spend the day in Munising and Marquette.

Excellent cabins, beautiful location. Great for couples or families. The cabin was clean and cozy and the hosts were very accomodating and responsive. The bed and provided linens were very comfortable.

We made a last(ish) minute decision to cancel our hotel when our NMU student son requested that we bring the dogs and some homemade meals. I’m so glad that we found this place! ...The kitchen was very well stocked with all of the utensils and pans I needed to cook.

Great place to stay. Will definitely come back ...There is ALOT of accommodations as well for the water. Rate this 10 out of 10 all day long! Thanks for all the communication and helpfulness from the owners. Would recommend to all friends and family!

Snowmobiling trip, stayed 4 nights in cabin #6. Excellent location right off trail 8. Cabin was very comfortable and well equipped. Fantastic cinnamon rolls delivered to our door one morning. Will be back!

All year long we look forward to returning to UP Sunrise Cottages. It is one of our very favorite places to vacation in all of the US. We love that they are able to accommodate large families and the set-up of the cottages reminds me a throw-back to generations gone by… where kids can just play. They ride their bikes. They make art with sidewalk chalk. They canoe, kayak, skateboard, swim, make sand castles, play tetherball and have an absolute blast from dawn to dusk. It’s also a great home base for visiting all around the stunning Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are endless adventures you can have within driving distance of the cottages!!

We just left UP Sunrise Cottages after our third summer in a row. As always, the accommodations were stellar. Our cottage was newly renovated, clean, comfy, pet friendly and stocked with all the needed essentials. The location is perfect...Our kids love to spend all day playing in the lake or around the resort, where there are tons of fun activities available (and included in the rental price with no extra fees).... Beyond all this, there is something extra special about this place. Kids of all ages make fast friends and play together from morning 'til night. The owners have become friends and each member of their family is welcoming, kind and so fun to be around. I'll end with the reviews from my 11 and 8 year old kids: "It's where I have my funnest vacations ever" and "It's my favorite place on Earth." Sums it up just right!

Value, connection and memories. The three words that summarize our terrific stay at UP Sunrise Cottages. We stayed 5 days/4 nights in the Sunset Cottage, across the lake from the resort. The fully stocked cottage had everything we needed for our family of 6. Linens, towels, pots/pans and utensils were all ready for our use. So convenient! Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the lake access, kayaks, paddle boats & Aqua Park. We were able to escape our busy suburban life to really slow down and connect as a family. Jeff & Angie did a great job communicating with us before, during and after our stay. You can see they are fully committed to giving their guests the best experience possible. The memories we made as a family will last for years. We cannot wait for our next stay and plan on inviting friends and family to join us at UP Sunrise Cottages.

Believe me when I say this was the best family vacation we have ever had! We frequently travel the country looking for unique, nature-based experiences and UP Sunrise Cottages is now at the top of our list. We don’t typically return to the same place but we are already planning our return trip! We were also very impressed with Angie and her amazing family. They go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and to provide a classic up north environment. The cottages are so clean, quiet and cozy. We cooked every meal at the cabin and have never seen a more well-stocked kitchen. We were also blown away that the kayaks, paddle boats, etc were all included as a perk. The other guests were all so friendly and the place quickly turns into a community of people all living their best life together. Watching our grandkids play on the incredible aqua park and kayak the lake all day and make fast friends with the other visiting kids was truly magical. During breaks from swimming, they loved the playground and riding bikes all over the paved roads. My 9-year-old grandson is completely absorbed with electronics at home and is rarely seen without a tablet or phone in his hand. We can’t describe how wonderful it was to watch him transform into a happy kid that spent every waking moment outside and who cried when we left because he didn’t want to leave. We had the time of our lives and are so grateful to have found our new family tradition.
